Navigational Conditions

The navigational conditions in the Port of Aabenraa are exceptionally good, and the port can be accessed 24 hours a day. Entry is from Aabenraa Fjord, via a 1000-meter-long and 11-meter-deep channel, up to the port. With a water depth of up to 11 meters, both larger and smaller vessels can call at the port—safely and efficiently.

On this page, you will find navigational conditions for both Aabenraa North and Aabenraa South.

Aabenraa North

Port coordinates: 55⁰ 02’ 5N - 0⁰25’ 7E
The port consists of three basins: Nyhavn, Gammelhavn, and Sydhavn, as well as Sønderjyllandskajen, Ro-Ro facility, and two tanker piers.

  • Maximum length for dry cargo ships: 250 meters (without width restriction).
  • Maximum length for tankers: 210 meters (without width restriction, but max. 50,000 tons displacement).
  • Maximum speed in the harbor basins: 4 knots.
  • The channel is marked with buoys with top marks on both sides.

Water Level

There is no noticeable tidal difference in the Port of Aabenraa. However, weather conditions can affect the water level:

Aabenraa South

Port coordinates: 55°01.543'N 009°26.427'E
Aabenraa Port South consists of 3 quays.

At the extension of quay 12, there are two oil piers, which are privately owned.

Water Level

The difference between mean high water and mean low water is 0.2 m.

NE storm can cause up to 1.6 m high water and SW storm up to 1.3 m low water
